Biggin Hill Girls Club
The JVenn Foundation is proud to work with the Hull Women’s Centre to provide after school classes at Biggin Hill School in Hull. These have been running since January. One of the Foundation’s Trustees visited a class recently – these are some of her comments:
“… what a wonderful experience. It was evident from walking in that the girls are getting so much from this … the positive work that is done will have a positive impact on their learning and future aspirations. It would certainly be beneficial for the classes to be rolled out across more primary schools for year 6 and even into secondary schools.”
These quotes are from some of the 10 and 11 year old girls who attend the classes:
“We have had lots of fun learning about lots of things such as growing up and self-esteem. I have really enjoyed going to this club, it is really relaxed and we are allowed to talk freely. This is always something to look forward to.”
“Before we start the lesson we always have healthy snacks like fruit. We do games that I really enjoy, we also learn lots of new and interesting things. We share our ideas and get to say nice things. The Girls Club improves my confidence.”
“We do things such as making things, talking and learning about growing up. Before the start of the session we have a healthy snack like strawberries and cheese sandwiches. Each week we put something in our folder and on the last week we will stick them in a book and take them home. I really enjoy the club.”
Both The JVenn Foundation and the Hull Women’s Centre are keen to expand these classes in Hull. If you want more information please email me at john@jvennfoundation.org.
