On Wednesday (24th August) JVenn trustees, Jay and Kirstine, presented certificates to three students who have been awarded bursaries commencing in September. They are Dagmara Podsiadlo, Rhiannon Regan and Matthew Robson. Each has performed well in their studies despite the difficulties they have faced in their young lives and in the opinion of the trustees will benefit most from the awards – not just for themselves but also for those around them. Again, we received about fifty applications and it is the hardest thing to have to disappoint so many great students.
Dagmara and Rhiannon are studying, respectively, Psychology and English with Law whilst Matthew is the first student to be awarded the bursary to continue his studies at Hull College - in Construction and the Built Environment. Although they are all staying in Hull, that is not a requirement to be awarded a bursary. The trustees also decided to award bursaries to Faith and Evie if they are able to begin their studies in 2017 in Medicine and Veterinary Science.
For family reasons I was unable to attend the ceremony and so I would like to add thanks to all those who made it such a special occasion: Gosschalks and the Smile Foundation for providing the facilities, Jay for his speech and Kirstine for presenting the awards, Alex Brantuo for taking the photos and Esme Birch for the cupcakes. Finally, a special thank to Sabrina Jones who has been an invaluable volunteer over the last 18 months – we will miss her.
