Matthew first few weeks of his HND Course

My first couple of weeks at Hull College Higher Education was a big adjustment for me. The level of work required to be successful in HE is extremely high and I have been introduced to many different aspects of Academia. Within the first few days I have made lots of new friends that share the same interests as me.

Currently I am undertaking modules in Design, Applied Mathematics, Environmental Impact, Research and PPD. I find maths very exciting as I love how pointless abstract concepts you study at GCSE level have real-life applications that are vital to the construction industry. Environmental Impact is also a topic of interest as already I have begun to examine many global and local drivers that impact our environment and how the activities of the construction industry adversely contribute to the effects of Global Warming etc.

I am extremely grateful for being awarded one of the JVENN bursary’s as this has allowed me to buy a laptop, software that enables me to plan my assignments affectively and specialised Computer Aided Design software that will assist with the completion of many modules throughout my course. The bursary has also enabled me to focus more on my chosen course - HND in Construction and the Built Environment – and my caring duties for my mum as the additional financial support means that finding part time employment is not a major priority at this time.

I would like to thank John and the JVENN trusties again for awarding me the JVENN bursary as it has helped me in more ways than I can ever explain.

Thank you,

Matthew
