Paul Britton presenting Chaelan Rsheed with her award

JVenn is delighted to announce that on the 10th September we awarded bursaries to four students: Charlie Mitchell is going to study Sports Rehabilitation at Hull, Charlie Jacobs - Physiotherapy at York St John, Chaelan Rsheed – Pharmacy at Kingston and Jacob Cooper – Social Work at Hull. I think it was only coincidence that there was a preponderance of students in the health & caring disciplines – not a bad thing though. We want to congratulate these four great students and wish them every success in the next stage of their lives. They deserve it. The awards were presented by Paul Britton, principal at Wyke College.
Paul also kindly agreed to give a short talk about his first impressions of Hull, including: that we’re friendly folk (yes, we are) and that the weather’s better here than in Manchester. I’d like to thank Paul and our other speakers: Mel & Stuart Clark, Ryan Daniel, Angela Oldroyd and Kirstine Brantuo. It was generous of them to give up their time both to prepare their talks and come along on the evening. Kirstine stepped in at the last minute to lead a discussion with some of the students. Thank you to her and to Faith, Ellis and Dagmara for sharing their experiences of settling in at university – it’s much appreciated.
There was an excellent turnout of old and new friends for the evening, held this year at the Hull Marina hotel who put on a good spread for us. Among familiar faces were the glowing ones of David Cooper and Jay Trivedy, evidence of their now leisurely retirements. Among the new faces were Sue Rooke, our new Independent Examiner, and Gary Parkinson who became a trustee of the JVenn Foundation in June. I’m looking forward to working with them in the future.
So, thank you to everyone who came along and everybody who has worked with and helped JVenn over the year.
The bursary application process will start all over again in March.
