Life under Covid-19

When diving into University life I was certainly not expecting COVID-19 to present. Personally, COVID-19 has had a huge impact on my studies, my course is very interactive therefore the practical element was hugely affected.
When the first lockdown approached the University closed immediately, consequently the University was unprepared on how to conduct remote teaching, therefore my final module was postponed as well as my clinical placement which consisted of a 5-week period within the healthcare industry. This has caused a halt to my academic progression and ultimately meant that upon arriving into my second year at University there was an increased pressure on fast progression in order to receive all the relevant information before going into our exam period in December.
The content delivery aspect has been very heavy and overwhelming. As a result of missing my first clinical placement it means further perspective and knowledge was unavoidably unable to be gained and my confidence levels professionally were not challenged.
Clinical placements are so important to undergraduate Physiotherapy courses because it consolidates your learning and allows you to put theory into practice, as well as gaining a wider understanding on why specific treatments are provided to certain patient groups.
Furthermore, the non-practical element of the course is delivered remotely which can become challenging because the lectures can be up to three hours long, therefore maintaining concentration whilst surrounded by distractions and home comforts is very hard.
COVID-19 has put a halt to the socialising aspect of University e.g. meeting new people, however although this is disappointing it is something that is out of our control in this moment in time.
COVID-19 cannot be pushed aside and although it has created hurdles to my education and social life, I think it is vital to find the positive aspects and still strive towards success rather than been consumed by the ‘unknowns’ that COVID has presented to the world.
